Lock, Face ID and passcode
How do I turn on the lock?
Open Settings in the App, tap Lock, set a four-digit passcode, then enable Face ID or Touch ID. Choose an auto-lock delay so the diary locks again shortly after you leave.
I forgot my passcode.
If Face ID or Touch ID is on, unlock with it, then change the passcode in Settings → Lock. If biometrics are off, the passcode cannot be recovered because it is stored only on your device and never with us. Reinstalling the App clears the passcode along with local data; restore from your backup or iCloud afterwards.
Why are my widgets blank?
Widgets hide entry text while the diary is locked to keep it private on the home screen. Unlock the App once and the widgets refresh.
iCloud sync
Entries aren't showing on my other device.
- Make sure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID and iCloud Drive is on in iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud.
- Check that Diary Keeper is enabled under "Apps using iCloud".
- Open the App on both devices and wait a minute; large photos and voice notes take longer.
- If it still doesn't sync, restart both devices.
How do I turn sync off or remove iCloud data?
Turn sync off in the App's Settings. To delete the iCloud copy, go to iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Diary Keeper → Delete Data.
Export and backup
How do I make a backup?
Settings → Export & backup → Backup. The file contains every entry, photo, voice note and setting. Save it to Files, AirDrop it, or store it in a cloud drive you trust.
How do I move to a new iPhone?
Either turn on iCloud sync on both phones, or make a Backup on the old phone and use Settings → Export & backup → Restore on the new one.
Can I print my diary?
Yes. Export as PDF creates a print-ready booklet, with photos placed under each entry. Choose a date range and whether to include photos.
Markdown export
Export as Markdown to get plain-text files that open in Obsidian, Bear, Notes or any editor.
Remove Ads
I paid but still see ads.
Open Settings in the App and tap Restore Purchases while signed into the Apple ID that made the purchase. If it still doesn't work, email us with the App Store receipt.
Is it a subscription?
No. Remove Ads is a single, one-time purchase that works on all your devices with the same Apple ID.
Reminders and prompts
Reminders don't arrive.
Check iPhone Settings → Notifications → Diary Keeper is allowed, and that Focus modes aren't silencing it. Reminders are scheduled locally, so they only fire on days you selected in the App.
Can I add my own quotes?
Yes. Settings → Quotes lets you add your own; they appear in the Today's Quote widget and on the home screen.
Deleting your data
Delete the App to remove everything stored on the device. If iCloud sync was on, also remove Diary Keeper's data in iCloud storage (see above). We hold no copy of your diary, so there is nothing further to request from us. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
